Technology and augmented intelligence applied in work processes

We are living in new times in different areas. Obviously, thinking about where the changes are most noticeable, the labor changes are one of the most present debates in many discussions.

From September 11th to September 15th, GIDCOMP organized an event called Global AI Week 2023. This online event aims to help organizations incorporate AI technologies and explore the possibilities offered by this technology. It provides an opportunity to learn from international speakers, participate in business networking sessions, and discover the latest trends in AI.

Thinking about Payrolladvisers and what GCE does, we chose two speakers who detailed how new technologies can change labor. Paloma Reinoso, Product Manager at Altair, spoke about digital transformation. She explained how to improve different processes in a company. Maria Noel de los Santos, Learning and Development Analyst at Starbucks Coffee, centered more on employees, teams, and change management in her speech called Using Technology and AI for Team Development.

Improving processes

We have “to think about technology and intelligent solutions to drive a connected, safe, and sustainable future”, said Paloma Reinoso. These three concepts are fundamental to shaping our world. By leveraging the power of technology, we can create interconnected systems that enhance communication, improve safety measures, and promote sustainable practices.

Reinoso spoke also about “the importance of sharing information with stakeholders and departments”. By fostering a culture of open communication and knowledge exchange, organizations can streamline their operations and drive innovation. Sharing information enables different departments to align their goals, and make informed decisions. It also helps build trust among stakeholders and promotes collaboration, leading to more efficient processes and better outcomes.

María Noel de los Santos found the same difficulty: different languages and the complexity of interdisciplinary teams. “It’s part of the organization to build a team,” he said. You have to have instances to connect.

She mentioned the process.  Start with simulation, then do data analysis to do a solution with IoT is a powerful combination that can unlock numerous possibilities. By leveraging simulation techniques, we can model and predict behaviors, enabling us to make informed decisions.

“There is no better testing than by the people who are going to use it”, said Maria Noel de los Santos giving an example of her field. Data analysis allows us to extract valuable insights from vast amounts of information, empowering us to identify patterns, trends, and correlations. These processes can create intelligent systems that offer multiple experiences with IoT products, that have the potential to enhance our daily lives, improve efficiency, and transform industries across the board.

Adapting to technology from the inside

María Noel de los Santos spoke about her work at Starbucks: “We are not only innovative in gastronomy but also in its work methods”. “The use of technology is an accumulative effort that we must all undertake together”, explained later. By leveraging technology, we can create intelligent systems that enhance communication, improve safety measures, and promote sustainable practices. She said: “We have to push our limits further”.

“How to approach changes?”, asked she her after the first ideas. “With a growth mindset”, answered De Los Santos. “This mindset positions us well in the face of changes, allows us to challenge ourselves and make mistakes”, detailed. “In the process of adaptation, we will encounter errors, and that is part of the journey”, concluded before speaking about the importance of empathy.

“The secret is to create instances to empathize with each other”, confessed she. “Being empathetic allows us to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes and understand how they will receive the information”, detailed. After that, she recommended inviting workers to be part of the process and encouraging their participation. So, the key is to create opportunities for fostering empathy among individuals, being understanding of others’ perspectives, inviting workers to actively participate in the process, and having effective tools to address challenges and detractors.
